What to do, step by step

  1. Request the document in writing from Uninove (transcript, certificate, transfer papers or diploma) and write down the protocol number.

  2. Keep the answer or refusal: withholding documents because of late payment is prohibited (art. 6 of Law 9.870/1999).

  3. The institution may collect the debt through legal means, but it cannot withhold documents or apply academic penalties.

  4. If there is no solution, go to Procon and file a complaint on the consumidor.gov.br platform.

  5. In basic education, the Diretoria de Ensino (regional education office) can also be contacted; in higher education, the MEC (Brazilian Ministry of Education).

Can the institution withhold my transcript if I owe money?

As a rule, no. Law 9.870/1999 prohibits withholding school documents and suspending exams because of late payment. The debt must be collected through legal means.

My diploma is taking long. What is the deadline?

The diploma must be issued and registered within a period regulated by the MEC. Unjustified delays can be reported to the MEC and Procon.
